Welcome to Adaptive Recreation Opportunities!

Our volunteers are part of a dynamic team who strive toward a more inclusive and fun Fort Collins for people of all abilities. We provide specialized therapeutic recreation classes and events, and inclusion support for classes listed in the Recreator.   

Summer training will take place the week of May 30th-June 2nd.

Training is open for sign up, see below for training and upcoming activities in need of volunteers. Additional activities can be seen after logging in.

Beach Party Dance

Dances are large fun-filled events based on a particular theme. Dressing for the theme party is highly encouraged. Volunteer roles include dancing, mingling, serving snacks and being a positive role model.


Restaurant Night

An ARO staff will drive and oversee the logistics, and volunteers will support participants to enjoy a night out, support independence in ordering, paying, and socializing at different restaurants in town.

Get Involved

Accepting Applications for the following Volunteer Types:

 Wondering how to get started as AN ARO Volunteer?

1.Complete your volunteer application. See further instructions below for becoming a Special Olympics Volunteer for our Unified Sports programs.

2. You will receive confirmation, and an email to

3.complete your background check.

4. Sign up for shifts and related specialized training.

5. A coordinator will get back to you to confirm your volunteer activities. You can also meet with us personally to sign up for ARO volunteer activities.


 How to Become a Special Olympics/Unified Sports Volunteer:

  1. Fill out the Unified Sports volunteer application on the right side of this page. 
  2. Fill out the Special Olympics Application here
  3. After you’ve completed and submitted your Special Olympics application and Unified Sports (City of Fort Collins) application, you will receive a link from Verified Volunteers to complete a background check. You will get one from Special Olympics and the City of Fort Collins. Ignore the one from Special Olympics as it will cost you $16. Follow the City of Fort Collins link and fill out the background check which is free.
  4. When you receive the results of your background check, log back into Verified Volunteers and share your background check with Special Olympics Colorado. Here are the directions for sharing your background check

Fall- Flag Football and Volleyball
