Description:

The Purpose of The Gardens on Spring Creek Volunteer Program is to enrich lives of volunteers and community members through our beautiful, curated gardens and outstanding education programs and events; create a financially sustainable workforce; and educate volunteers and guests about environmental stewardship through gardening.

 

Responsibilities & Activities:

Primary Activities:

  • Perform gardening tasks at a moderate activity level including weeding, mulching, planting, propagating, etc.
  • Assist with special events through various moderate level tasks including ticket scanning, greeting, wayfinding, interacting with public, etc. 
  • Take direction from gardens staff regarding garden and/or greenhouse work
  • Work together as a part of a volunteer team on garden projects or garden events
  • Volunteer opportunities are also available in youth/adult education and butterfly house. Additional training and a background check may be required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Enthusiasm for sharing a love of gardening and the natural world.
  • Participate in orientation, training programs, and program evaluations.
  • Treat visitors with courtesy and respect.
  • Act in a professional manner, which includes respecting confidences.
  • Be accountable to and supportive of the work at The Gardens on Spring Creek.
  • Verbal communication skills
  • Desire to learn about horticulture
  • A positive attitude
  • Must be able to spend days in inclement weather, on feet, and sometimes lifting objects
Time Commitment:
  • To start volunteering at The Gardens, a 1.5 hour in person orientation is required. Orientations occur twice a month - usually once on a weekday and once on a weekend. 
  • Varies depending on specific opportunity. Most volunteer opportunities occur between the hours of 8am-12pm Tuesday-Friday. Weekend and evening shifts are also available in certain areas, but do not occur regularly
  • All Gardens volunteers will remain active in our database as long as they volunteer at least once within a two-year period. After two years of inactivity, volunteers will be marked as inactive. If a volunteer would like to resume volunteering again, they will need to complete a new volunteer application, attend an orientation, and volunteer interview.
