Butterfly House Volunteer


Description:

Volunteering in our Butterfly House is both educational and rewarding! Butterfly House volunteers are responsible for maintaining USDA containment standards, helping to ensure an excellent guest experience and enhance guest takeaways through interpretation and education.

Responsibilities & Activities:
  • Welcome all guests, give them a short orientation to the Butterfly House rules and keep track of tickets
  • Comfortable with working in a warm and humid indoor environment
  • Make sure the butterflies stay in the house as per the Butterfly House training
  • Check guests’ jackets and belongings as they leave to make sure there are no butterflies sneaking out
  • Ensure guests are staying on the path and not disturbing the plant material
  • Make sure guests are not leaving the House with butterflies
  • Helpful and resourceful in meeting guests needs
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Provide interpretive education in the Butterfly House
  • Enthusiasm for sharing a love of gardening and the natural world with people of all ages
Time Commitment:
  • Butterfly House volunteer shifts are 2.5 hours in length and occur 7 days a week from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. and 2:15 to 4:45 p.m.
  • You can volunteer as frequently or as infrequently as your schedule allows
  • There is no minimum volunteer requirement
  • All Butterfly House volunteers will remain active in our database as long as they volunteer at least once within a one-year period. After one years of inactivity in the Butterfly House, volunteers will be marked as inactive. If a volunteer would like to resume volunteering again, they will need to re-watch the training video and participate in a shadow shift
