The Historic Preservation Services division presents multiple education programs throughout the year, and tables at community events as well. This opportunity is for Preservation Education volunteers who would like to help make those programs a success, and have an interest in promoting the community knowledge about, and stewardship of, important places in Fort Collins. Opportunities will include helping City Preservation staff table at special events, and helping give walking tours or other education programming at historic places.
Activities will be variable throughout the year, but typically include support for heritage month events, such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Black History Month (February), Women's History Month (March), National Architecture Month (April), Historic Preservation Month (May), Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May), Pride Month (June), Hispanic Heritage Month (September-October), and Native American History Month (November). Opportunities would include helping to staff a table at special events, helping staff-led efforts in support of fundraisers for local non-profits (such as Poudre Landmark Foundation's Historic Homes Tour), and supporting walking tours or other educational programs about local history, historic places, and how we care for them (which may include helping with event check-in, keeping tour groups together, or presenting information as part of the event).
Intermittent, but can be up to 2-3 hours in a week if a major event is taking place.
None required, but education/interpretive certifications are welcome, such as teaching certificates, or certifications from the NAI or Eppley Institute.
