Pineridge Natural Area
Natural Discoveries - Mixed Ages
Where: Pineridge Natural Area, meet in the parking lot by Dixon Reservoir When: Saturday, May 17th, 7:00- 9:30 a.m. Program Description: Enjoy a leisurely walk from the parking area on the west side of Dixon Reservoir around the western and northern sides of the reservoir with naturalists and birders Jud and Mark. Various bird species will be identified and observed. Participants will learn that identifying birds involves more than determining their physical appearance, but also includes recognizing an entire gestalt that includes behavior, microhabitat, flight pattern, vocalization, and other individual characteristics.. Accessibility: Stroll 1-2 miles over mostly flat terrain. Restrooms at parking lot. Possible mud and uneven trails. What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather forecast. Bring multiple layers for both active walking and standing still. Bring sunscreen, a hat / sunglasses, closed-toe, sturdy shoes, and plenty of water. Trails may be muddy so please wear proper footwear. You may wish to bring binoculars, if you have them, or we will have them available. Hiking poles are a great option if you are concerned about balance on uneven/muddy terrain. ___________________________________________________________________ People of all abilities and disabilities are welcome to participate in all programs and we are happy to make any appropriate accommodations. Judson H - Volunteer Naturalist
Following a career as editor of a lawyers' magazine, I decided to reawaken my lifelong interest in natural history and the out of doors, volunteering in environmental education, citizen science research (bumblebees), and environmental restoration. I'm certified as a Minnesota Master Naturalist and volunteer with Poudre Wilderness Volunteers as well as serving as a Fort Collins Master Naturalist.

Mark T - Volunteer Naturalist
I moved to Fort Collins in 1999, and retired in 2016 after 31 years as a wildlife ecologist with the USDA National Wildlife Research Center. I enjoy traveling, golfing, skiing, hiking and watching wildlife, especially birds.
