Natural Areas Inspired Songwriting

Where: Primrose Studio. Meet at the studio at 4300 Michaud Lane near Reservoir Ridge. Drive to the back of the parking lot and through the green gate that is normally closed, but will be open for registered participants this day. Activity Description. Any-level songwriters - come find inspiration in natural areas for writing lyrics and composing music and melodies! This activity will explore using natural areas and nature as a source of inspiration for writing a song. Participants will review some example songs with a nature or natural resource theme and will examine how the writer approached their songwriting, will be instructed in some basic songwriting guidelines related to structure and organization, tempo, etc., will immerse themselves in the natural area to seek inspiration for a song, will work with the instructor and other participants to draft lyrics and will potentially compose a tune for their song based on recorded natural sounds. What to bring: Bring a notebook or journal, a pencil with an eraser, a cell phone or recording device, a water bottle, lunch, and any snacks they wish to consume. Wear proper clothing/gear for hiking on trails given the days weather and for sitting and participating in group discussions and work indoors/outdoors. Accessibility: Program takes place both in and out of doors and along wide dirt roads and trails around the studio. Walk 0.25 miles. I enjoy walking/hiking, biking and kayaking. I am a songwriter and a musician. I play solo gigs and in a bluegrass band, and I join local weekly bluegrass jam groups.
