Natural Discoveries - Mixed Ages

Where: Fossil Creek Reservoir - Approximate address is 3340 Carpenter Road. The entrance to Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area is on Carpenter Road/ CR 32, approximately one mile west of I-25, or two miles east of Timberline on the north side of Carpenter Road; Please meet in the outdoor classroom near the restrooms. When: Saturday, May 11, 6:30-8:00 pm Accessibility: Activities take place along an accessible trail. A short hike (less than 1.5 miles) along a wide dirt trail is optional. Accessible parking and restrooms available just off the parking lot. Program Description: Birds are all around us, you see them everywhere, but who are they? Identifying them is a first step to uncovering the amazing diversity of the birds in our neighborhoods. Many migratory birds use Fort Collins as a final stop or a rest stop during their flights to their breeding grounds to the north. Waterfowl/shore birds, use the reservoirs/lakes for feeding, resting, and security. Join us at Fossil Creek Reservoir to observe a variety of spring migrants, many in their colorful breeding plumage, visiting the reservoir and natural area. What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather forecast. Bring multiple layers for both active walking and standing still. Bring sunscreen, a hat and sunscreen, closed-toe, sturdy shoes, and plenty of water. Trails may be muddy so please wear proper footwear. Hiking poles are a great option if you are concerned about balance on uneven/muddy terrain.
