Special Guest: Weather permitting, the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program (www.rmrp.org) will be at Fossil Creek during the Eagle Watch with a live raptor for visitors and participants to see! Bald eagles from the north make Fort Collins their winter home. They spend nights in communal roosts in cottonwood trees near the reservoir. Volunteer Naturalists are stationed at the viewing pier and explain the eagles’ natural history and help visitors view them through spotting scopes and binoculars. Eagle Watch Programs require a short walk along a paved trail to a viewing pier. Please note that the viewing pier is open year round but Cattail Flats Trail may be closed in the winter to prevent disturbance to these birds. Occasionally, viewing scopes will be set up near the parking lot. Drop in any time during these programs. They are free and no registration is required, but if you sign up here you'll receive email reminders and notices of cancellations. If temperatures are below freezing, or it’s windy or foggy, the Eagle Watches may be canceled. Be sure to visit www.fcgov.com/naturalareas for weather cancellations and updates before you go. Masks will not be required, as this is an outdoor event. However, please practice physical distancing whenever possible. Stay home if you are sick.
Registration is not required for this activity, but by clicking "sign up" you will receive a reminder and updates about this program.

Hi! I moved to Colorado in 2014 from Rochester NY where my wife and I taught computer science at Rochester Institute of Technology. I enjoy outdoor activities, photography, and travel.
I am a retired college professor. I love to share what I know and to learn new things. I've been an outdoor person my whole life and enjoy almost anything to do with nature. My special love is birds, and have worked to make my yard a haven for birds of many kinds, with a variety of feeders and bird houses.
