Where: Fossil Creek Reservoir - Approximate address is 3340 Carpenter Road. The entrance to Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area is on Carpenter Road/ CR 32, approximately one mile west of I-25, or two miles east of Timberline on the north side of Carpenter Road; When: December 22, 3:00pm - 4:30pm, drop-in at any time during the program Accessibility: Accessible parking and restrooms available. Spotting scopes and best eagle viewing are located about 1/4 - 1/2 mile down a gently sloping, paved and ADA accessible trail. What to Bring: Pets are not permitted at Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area. Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress warmly. Program Description: Bald eagles from the north make Fort Collins their winter home. They spend nights in communal roosts in cottonwood trees near the reservoir. Volunteer Naturalists are stationed at the viewing pier and explain the eagles’ natural history and help visitors view them through spotting scopes and binoculars. Drop in any time during these programs. They are free and no registration is required, but if you sign up here you'll receive email reminders and notices of cancellations. If temperatures are below freezing, or it’s windy or foggy, the Eagle Watches may be canceled. Be sure to visit www.fcgov.com/naturalareas for weather cancellations and updates before you go. Masks will not be required, as this is an outdoor event. However, please practice physical distancing whenever possible. Stay home if you are sick.

A former biology teacher turned science writer, illustrator, and graphic designer, I've been a Master Naturalist since 1995. My illustrations have been incorporated in many of the local natural area entrance signs. I enjoy sharing my passion for natural history and scientific illustration with others.
I have 15 years experience as a classroom teacher, but my heart is in the outdoors! I have designed and taught environmental education classes at the Jeffco Outdoor Lab school and Thorne Ecological Institute, and am a facilitator for Projects WILD, WET, and Learning Tree. I am an avid hiker and love geology and all things creepy crawly!
I became a Volunteer Naturalist in 2023. I love sharing my passion for nature, especially birds and butterflies.
I am so thrilled to be part of Fort Collins Natural Areas, as a volunteer naturalist and in other opportunities that come up. Sharing my love of all things nature related gives me the greatest joy. Birds are a particular passion of mine, so I spend as much time as possible out enjoying the beautiful antics of our feathered friends. If you see me out on the trail, binoculars raised, please stop and ask questions, I love to share what I am seeing.
