Stewardship Project

The LGBTQ+ Summer 2025 activity series is lead in partnership by Natural Areas, Larimer County Natural Resources, and volunteers. These programs are intended to be a safe and welcoming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, allies are welcome. Explore the wonders of nature while connecting with your community. When: Thursday September 18, 8:30 - 11:30am, Meet at the Harmony Transfer Center parking lot, on the northwest side to carpool to the put-in location. Program Description: Participants will assist in removing trash from the lake and shore. Bring your own watercraft if you have one! There will be one or two kayaks available to borrow, as well as the natural areas johnboat. The purpose of this project is to remove the amount of windblown and deposited trash that is in the largest most southern pond. Bike wheels and other visible trash is viewable from the shore but is not accessible. A sweep through the water and the shore would reduce the amount of trash, increase the health of the habitat for the wildlife and increase the viewer experience for recreators. Accessibility: Safety concerns include random metal objects that may contain a sharp rusty point and fishhooks. Lifejackets will need to be worn at all times. Program takes place outside and along the water, with variable terrain. Some off-trail walking and bushwhacking will be required. If you have any questions or concerns about the accessibility of a program, please contact [email protected] or call 970-416-2815 for more information. People with disabilities are welcome to participate in all programs and we are happy to make any appropriate accommodations. Requests for disability-related services can be made during registration through the activity contact or by calling 970-416-2815 at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the activity. What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather forecast. Bring sunscreen, a hat if you want one, closed-toe, sturdy shoes and a water bottle. Wear clothes that can get wet and dirty. Snacks and water jugs (for refills) will be provided, but please bring your own water container. Waders are encouraged and paddleboards, kayaks, or canoes are encouraged.
