NextGenServe MW Cohort with Grandview Cemetery

Today NextGen visits Grandview Cemetery! Teens will have options to conduct general maintenance, including pouring new bases for headstones, setting headstones that have shifted due to winter precipitation, or leveling footstones that have sunken over time. Teens also have the option to delve into tour design. How does a person "tour" a cemetery? What kind of work would be involved in creating tour stops? These are big questions and will last longer than a single day, so NextGen teens should consider what kind of work they could do with a school-based service club as the school year starts up. Consider this for a tour: select a historic person buried in Grandview Cemetery, or work with one of the interesting monuments (such as the monument to the fallen soldiers of the Civil War). Once you've picked a topic, conduct some research using the archival material Grandview has on hand, or search for additional information. Also look for historic photographs that would complete your story. Mix these together into a narrated slide show and post that video to YouTube. Then turn the video link into a QR code, laminate it so it's (mostly) weatherproof, and post that in the cemetery. Viola! A stop on a tour!
