Stewardship Behind the Scenery (Community Program)

Where: Meet at Fossil Creek Park. Bike through the natural areas found in the Fossil Creek Zone. Meet at Fossil Creek Lake Pavilion #2 on the west side of the park off of Fossil Creek Parkway. Activity Description: Spend the morning biking through the Fossil Creek Zone with a Natural Areas planner to learn more about the significant ecological, historical, and paleontological resources found in this zone, and enjoy a morning outdoors. The City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department is updating the management plan for the Fossil Creek Zone. Since 1993, the City of Fort Collins has protected 11 natural areas in this zone. Collectively, these natural areas encompass nearly 3,000 acres, and support more than 280 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish, providing important habitat during breeding, migration, and winter seasons. The zone also contains significant geological, archaeological, and historic resources. Regional trails such as the Long View and Colorado Front Range trails connect communities and provide recreation, wellness, and everyday travel opportunities in the zone. The City can provide bikes and helmets for those who need to borrow! Please reach out to [email protected] and share your first and last name, height of the rider (for sizing) and be ready to sign the FC Moves guided bike ride waiver. Please reach out 2 weeks before the program so that staff can plan accordingly. What to bring: Helmets REQUIRED. Dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring plenty of water.
