Photography Hike: Let's Go Birding!

Where: Riverbend Ponds Natural Area (Prospect St. Parking Lot) When: Thursday October 17, 7:30 - 9:30am Program Description This hike is designed for photographers of all levels using equipment from mobile phones to more sophisticated telephoto cameras. We will hike around the large pond, beginning on the east side. Participants should have the opportunity to photograph waterfowl in their fall migration including: Osprey, Cinnamon Teal, Green Winged Teal, etc. There should also be Kingfishers, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Heron, and other shorebirds. This area also holds different species of raptors including Red-tailed Hawks, Bald Eagles, Northern Harriers, and Cooper’s Hawk. Mammals will include rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, and possibly coyote. Participants will be guided to where species will likely be and will be offered assistance in regards to lighting, camera settings, ets. Accessibility: Program takes place outside uneven dirt trails with an accessible fishing pier. Accessible bathrooms and parking available. Hike of up to 1 mile, easy, with plenty of shade. What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather forecast. Bring in multiple layers for both active walking and standing still. Bring sunscreen, a hat and gloves, closed-toe, sturdy shoes, and plenty of water. You may wish to bring binoculars, if you have them. Hiking poles are a great option if you are concerned about balance on uneven terrain. All photography skill levels are encouraged and any camera type from smartphone to professional telephotos cameras. __________________________________________________________________ People of all abilities and disabilities are welcome to participate in all programs and we are happy to make any appropriate accommodations.
