Creative By Nature
When: Saturday March 22nd, 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Where: Fossil Creek Reservoir natural area. Activity Description: Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area is a wonderful place to experience winter waterfowl because of fresh water flowing into the reservoir at the east end, waterfowl tend to gather there. Species that can be observed in late March include: Mallards, Green-winged Teal, Gadwalls, Horned Grebes, Western Grebes, Rudy Ducks, Common Mergansers, Red-breasted Mergansers, Cormorant, Northern Shovelers, Goldeneye, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, and American Wigeon. In the fields and trees surrounding the reservoir, one can observe Northern Harriers, Red-tailed Hawks, Western Meadowlarks, and Bald Eagles. This activity is open to all community members! The program includes an easy hike (approximately ¾ of a mile) to the blind on the eastern section of the reservoir. Once there we will have a scope set up. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, cameras, and smartphone cameras. At the blind, we will point out the various species that are present. We will also have an exercise to assist with identification. Photographers are encouraged to join this program, and assistance will be offered regarding settings, light, exposures, etc. Accessibility: Program takes place outside and along an ADA accessible trail. Accessible bathrooms and parking available. Hike of up to 0.5 mile, easy.
