  Coyote Ridge Natural Area

Budding Young Naturalists

This activity is in partnership with the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery "Nature All Around Us" Exhibit! Please stop by the museum to check out the exhibit and learn more about the natural world that surrounds us. When: Friday July 11th, 9-11 a.m. Where: Coyote Ridge Natural Area Activity Description: Did you know that people and black tailed prairie dogs both live in towns, and both build homes? We will explore how these amazing animals live and thrive on the prairie. As we hike through their colony and watch them, we will learn how they live and build their homes. We will learn their importance to the whole prairie community and how important our natural areas are to their long term survival. After we walk through the prairie dog colony, we will hike up to the cabin where there is a restroom. There we will relax and snack and enjoy the view. We’ll talk some more about prairie dogs and predators such as the coyote. What to Bring: Bring water, insect repellant, sunscreen and binoculars. We will have extra binoculars for those who need them. Dress for the weather and bring plenty of water. Accessibility: We will be hiking 1.1 miles from the parking lot to the cabin. It is a mild to moderate hike with some hills.

Maximum Participants: 30
