Stewardship Behind the Scenery (Community Program)

Activity Description: Visit Flores Del Sol, get a farm tour and a run down on what goes on out here, a rundown on all the various partners involved, a walkthrough of the pollinator zone, and some demos such as how to collect native seed, how to setup a native pollinator area, species info, pollinator info, etc. The Foodshed Project’s Farm Business Accelerator is a 3-year program designed to help beginning farmers move from hands-on training to running a sustainable farm business by providing affordable access to land, water, tools, and shared infrastructure, along with business education through CSU Extension, mentorship, technical support, and marketing assistance. Participants with some farming experience can start with small plots and grow within a collaborative environment, where they work alongside established farmers, engage with community programs, and build connections that support a thriving local food economy. The program, in addition to other established farm businesses, is located on Flores del Sol, a City of Fort Collins-owned property leased by Poudre Valley Community Farms. Schedule: 30min tour of accelerator farm and intro to the program, while walking around 30 min education piece-us and WRV explaining the benefits of pollinators to farms and natives to pollinators 20 min explaination and full walkthrough on: how to implement something like this, get into the details! Simultaneously WRV can also have a table where folks can look at the plants more in depth, touch the roots, and get more into those details if that is what interests them more? Optional hour for getting your hands dirty and helping out with a maintenance day-will likely be weeding! What to bring: Dress for the weather and bring plenty of water. Weeding supplies will be provided. Accessibility: All activities take place in a paved parking lot.
