Natural Discoveries

Join a Volunteer Naturalist for a winter adventure at Pineridge Natural Area. Watch and listen for wildlife and discover how deer, coyotes and prairie dogs survive our rugged winters. Learn how native plants are adapted to handle this harsh environment. Please dress for the weather and wear shoes with traction that can get wet and muddy. This program is most appropriate for older children and adults, but all are welcome. Approximately two miles, moderate with hills, with a short steep ascent and descent (250 feet each way) to cross the top of the ridgeline. Location: Meet at the Veterans Plaza outdoor amphitheater (just SE of the dog park) in Spring Canyon Community Park, Fort Collins. Parking is via the west end of Horsetooth Road within Spring Canyon Community Park. From the intersection of Taft Hill Road and Horsetooth Road head west on Horsetooth Road for almost a mile. Turn north at the Spring Canyon Community Park entrance, then left into the parking lot. Walk toward the flag poles and Veterans Plaza statue where we will begin our adventure. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and physical distancing will be required by any participants and volunteers during this program. No more than 10 people will be present at the program. Program requirements are subject to change as CDC and County guidelines are updated. Additional instructions will be sent by e-mail to those registered prior to the program. Waivers will be required to be signed either online or in person upon arrival. If you or anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 (cough, difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste/smell, etc.) do not attend this program. Visit https://www.larimer.org/health/communicable-disease/coronavirus-covid-19 for more information.

I am a Public Engagement Specialist with the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas and I organize community programs, programs by request and interpretive communications like signs and brochures. I'm excited to be back in Fort Collins again after being gone for 15 years. My favorite things to talk about are conservation issues, conservation research and raptors!! The black blur in the profile photo is my cattle dog. She never stops moving!
