Where: Fossil Creek Reservoir - Approximate address is 3340 Carpenter Road. The entrance to Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area is on Carpenter Road/ CR 32, approximately one mile west of I-25, or two miles east of Timberline on the north side of Carpenter Road; When: Saturday, October 5, 8:00am - 10:00am, drop-in at any time during the program Accessibility: Activities take place in near a paved parking lot or along an accessible trail. A short hike along a wide dirt trail is optional. Accessible parking and restrooms available. Program Description: Birds are all around us, you see them everywhere, but who are they? Identifying them is a first step to uncovering the amazing diversity of the birds in our neighborhoods. Many migratory birds use Fort Collins as a final stop or a rest stop during their flights to their breeding grounds to the north. Waterfowl/shore birds, use the reservoirs/lakes for feeding, resting, and security. Surrounding wetlands, woods and grasslands/prairies are used by other migratory birds, e.g., thrushes, sparrows and warblers. Register for information, updates, and cancellation info. Registration not required, but highly suggested. What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather forecast. Bring multiple layers for both active walking and standing still. Bring sunscreen, a hat / sunglasses, bug repellant, closed-toe, sturdy shoes, and plenty of water. Trails may be muddy so please wear proper footwear. Hiking poles are a great option if you are concerned about balance on uneven/muddy terrain. Bill was born in Canada where he met his wife Barbara, earned his MD, had 2 sons, served in the Canadian Armed Forces and settled into practicing Family Medicine. He and family then moved to Dallas Texas where they stayed for over 3 decades before settling in Fort Collins in 2019. In the past Bill enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader for 15 years, running camping and canoeing. He has been a Texas Master Naturalist. Bill is happy to be a Volunteer Naturalist for the City of Fort Collins.
I'm a retired Air Force Reserve and Federal Civil Service Environmental Attorney. I have a B.S. in Biology, a M.S. in Environmental Management and am a Certified Interpretive Guide and Certified Interpretive Host. In addition to being a Volunteer Naturalist with the City of Fort Collins, I'm also a Wyoming Naturalist.
