Natural Discoveries (Community Program)
Where: McMrurry Natural Area. Meet at the kiosk near the parking lot, 445 Hemlock St., Fort Collins, CO 80524. Activity Description: Curious about owls and their relationship to humans and the environment? Join Volunteer Naturalists for a short hike at McMurry Natural Area where you'll learn all about the resident Eastern Screech Owls, their owl cousins, and how they play a part in human health and wellbeing. Accessibility: Roughly 1 mile hike across uneven dirt trails. Easy. People with disabilities are welcome to participate in all programs and we are happy to make any appropriate accommodations. Requests for disability-related services can be made during registration through the activity contact or by calling 970-416-2815 at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the activity. What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather forecast. Bring in multiple layers for both active walking and standing still. Bring sunscreen, a hat, closed-toe, sturdy shoes, and plenty of water. Hiking poles are a great option if you are concerned about balance on uneven terrain. Don't forget your binoculars!

Theresa Martella is a retired environmental scientist who spent 36 years with the U.S. EPA, dedicated to protecting ecosystems and public health. She now spends her days hiking, riding horses, and deepening her relationship with the natural world. She enjoys helping others experience how nature calms the nervous system and restores balance. Blending scientific insight with lived, embodied practice, she guides people toward simple, nature-based ways of finding calm and resilience.
