Nature in the City Biodiversity Monitoring Training- Birds and Butterflies

Monday, 09 May 2022 @ 05:30 PM to 08:00 PM

Volunteer Training  -  Adult

Everyone is invited to help gather information about wildlife in Fort Collins as a Community Science Biodiversity Project volunteer this summer. It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy the city’s natural spaces as volunteers will be looking for birds and butterflies. This important scientific data will increase understanding of “a connected open space network accessible to the entire community that provides a variety of experiences and functional habitat for people, plants and animals” as called for in the Nature in the City Strategic Plan. Free, no previous experience is necessary. Training will be Monday, May 9th for birds and butterflies, plus a 30 minutes session in the field on Friday, May 13 or Saturday, May 14 between 7am-10am. Only one field session is required to complete the training. There will be an additional field training in July specifically for butterflies with details to follow at a later date. Surveys will be done between mid-May – mid-August. Volunteers must be 18 or older (children can accompany adult volunteers), and must commit to the training sessions and to completing six surveys. The Community Science Biodiversity Project is sponsored by City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department’s Nature in the City Program. This training will be done virtually. We will send out the meeting links to those who sign up.
