Natural Discoveries - Adult

Experience the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-Yoku on this guided nature walk. Learn to open your senses to nature’s healing power. About the experience: Our walk will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will end around 3:00 p.m. We will walk very slowly, stopping often, and sitting for periods of time, so it is a very low-intensity activity. Unlike a hike, we are not concerned with getting to a certain place by a certain time — we are interested in observing nature along the way. - This walk is designed for adults or older teens. - The walk will cover approximately 1/2-3/4 miles of very slow walking over gentle terrain. There are no steep hills in the area for this walk. However, feel free to bring a walking stick if you want. - Wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the season and temperature. - Forest therapy walks continue in light rain unless the threat of lightning or hypothermia is present. Bring rain gear and an umbrella if rain is in the forecast, including waterproof shoes. Splashing in puddles is fun! - Weather permitting, you will be invited (not required) to remove your shoes for earth connection time, so you may want to bring a small towel to wipe your feet. - Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a light snack, a hat/cap and a day pack large enough to carry these items (and rain gear, if needed). - No dogs are allowed on this walk. -A waiver is required to sign upon arrival for all participants. Primrose Studio is at 4300 Michaud Lane, Fort Collins, CO 80521. From Laporte Avenue, take Overland Trail Road north 1.5 miles to Michaud Lane. Go west one mile to Reservoir Ridge Natural Area. Go through the parking lot to the gate located in the northwest corner. Travel 0.25 miles along Claymore Lake to Primrose Studio. Please obey posted speed limits even if you’re late! https://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/primrose

This photo is of me really getting into my work on the natural areas! I was the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Natural Areas Department from 1994--2019. I trained Master Naturalists, delivered Certified Interpretive Guide training, managed, wrote, and edited interpretive signs and brochures, and I even got out to lead some field trips! In retirement I volunteer with the Natural Areas Department doing a few programs and helping with the bird surveys. Yes, I am still having fun!
