Voices of the Past - 16 +

Witness Anthropologist Dr. Jason LaBelle and his team of CSU students conduct an archaeological dig to uncover artifacts from over 1,200 years ago. Discover what life may have been like for the ancient inhabitants of the plains. Please note the following information: • Wear long pants and boots. This off-trail hike will be about 2.5 miles roundtrip over rough, uneven terrain. • We will be walking through areas with prairie dog burrows (and potentially fleas that could carry plague.) Wear insect repellent from the knees down. • Bring plenty of water and sun protection (hat, sunscreen.) There is no shade at this site. • There is no restroom. • In the interest of providing the safest experience for all visitors, those who are unprepared will be turned away. Registration is required. Parking location is on Timberline Rd, just north of the intersection of Timberline and Carpenter. Entrance will be well-marked with signs/flagging. Approximate Address: 7580 S Timberline Rd.

Monique T - Volunteer Naturalist Assistant

My husband and I have raised our five daughters in the FoCo community - enjoying countless library, museum, and outdoor adventures. As a home-schooler, teacher, traveler, and now a volunteer with FoCoMoD and the Natural Areas, I enjoy maintaining an enthusiastic curiosity and love of the world around me.

Sue K - Staff/Trainers

This photo is of me really getting into my work on the natural areas! I was the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Natural Areas Department from 1994--2019. I trained Master Naturalists, delivered Certified Interpretive Guide training, managed, wrote, and edited interpretive signs and brochures, and I even got out to lead some field trips! In retirement I volunteer with the Natural Areas Department doing a few programs and helping with the bird surveys. Yes, I am still having fun!
