See American Bison in their natural habitat, the shortgrass prairie! Observe the herd and learn of their story from Master Naturalists. 0.25 miles; easy. Please note: The bison are constantly on the move and we cannot guarantee that they will be visible. Bring binoculars, snacks, water, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. Registration required. Location: Soapstone Prairie Natural Area. Meet at the south parking lot. Allow for one hour driving time from Fort Collins. Directions to Soapstone: Soapstone Prairie is located 25 miles north of Fort Collins. From N. College Ave in Fort Collins, take Hwy 1/ Terry Lake Road to County Road 15 north (towards Waverly). From CR 15, turn north onto Rawhide Flats Road and continue north to the entrance station. There are nine miles of gravel road that can be dusty, rough and bumpy. Please respect our neighbors and be safe by observing the speed limit.
