Natural Discoveries - Mixed Ages

Bald eagles from the north make Fort Collins their winter home. They spend nights in communal roosts in cottonwood trees near the reservoir. Volunteer Naturalists are stationed at the viewing pier and explain the eagles’ natural history and help visitors view them through spotting scopes. Eagle Watch Programs require a short walk along a paved trail to a viewing pier. Occasionally, viewing scopes will be set up near the parking lot. Sign up for your desired 30-minute shift and check in with volunteers when you arrive. After checking in, participants will head down to the pier, where a few people will be allowed on to the pier at a time to look at eagles through the spotting scopes. No more than 10 people will be in a group at any one time. And the end of your scheduled shift, you may explore the rest of Fossil Creek Reservoir on your own. If temperatures are below freezing, or it’s windy or foggy, the Eagle Watches may be canceled. Be sure to visit www.fcgov.com/naturalareas for weather cancellations and updates before you go. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and physical distancing will be required by any participants and volunteers during this program. No more than 10 people will be present at the program. Program requirements are subject to change as CDC and County guidelines are updated. Additional instructions will be sent by e-mail to those registered prior to the program. Waivers will be required to be signed either online or in person upon arrival. If you or anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 (cough, difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste/smell, etc.) do not attend this program.
