Bald eagles from the north make Fort Collins their winter home. They spend nights in communal roosts in cottonwood trees near the reservoir. Volunteer Master Naturalists are stationed at the viewing pier and explain the eagles’ natural history and help visitors view them through spotting scopes and binoculars. Eagle Watch Programs require a short walk along a paved trail to a viewing pier. Please note that the viewing pier is open year round but Cattail Flats Trail is closed in the winter to prevent disturbance to these birds. Drop in any time during these programs. They are free and no registration is required, but if you sign up here you'll receive email reminders and notices of cancellations. If temperatures are below freezing, or it’s windy or foggy, the Eagle Watches may be canceled. Be sure to visit www.fcgov.com/naturalareas for weather cancellations and updates before you go.

I have 15 years experience as a classroom teacher, but my heart is in the outdoors! I have designed and taught environmental education classes at the Jeffco Outdoor Lab school and Thorne Ecological Institute, and am a facilitator for Projects WILD, WET, and Learning Tree. I am an avid hiker and love geology and all things creepy crawly!
I have a B.S. in Wildlife Sciences from Virginia Tech and a MBA from Marymount University. Previously worked with the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia rehabilitating injured raptors and am an avid birder. Loves to hike, stargaze, and photograph beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Go Hokies!
I am so thrilled to be part of Fort Collins Natural Areas, as a volunteer naturalist and in other opportunities that come up. Sharing my love of all things nature related gives me the greatest joy. Birds are a particular passion of mine, so I spend as much time as possible out enjoying the beautiful antics of our feathered friends.
